21 Beautiful Words

I have this thing for beautiful, inspiring  words. I could spend hours on Pinterest just reading great words and their meanings.

Here are 21 of the words I love (there’re are many more!)

  1. Ludic: (adj.) Full of fun and high spirits
  2. Kalon: (n.) Beauty that is more than skin-deep
  3. Meraki: (v.) To do something with soul, creativity, or love; to put something of yourself into your work
  4. Esprit d’escalier: (n.) The witty comeback you think of after the time is past to use it
  5. Eleutheromania: (n.) an intense and irresistible desire for freedom
  6. Wabi-sabi: (n.) The discovery of beauty in imperfection; the acceptance of the cycle of life and death
  7. Wanderlust: (n.) The irresistible, incurable desire to travel or wander
  8. Heliophilia: (n.) Desire to stay in the sun; love of sunlight
  9. Querencia: (n.) A place from which one’s strength is drawn, where one feels at home; the place where you are your most authentic self
  10. Selcouth: (adj.) Unfamiliar, rare, strange, and yet marvelous
  11. Verklempt: (adj.) Completely overcome with emotion
  12. Oriflamme: (n.) A symbol or standard that inspires confidence, devotion, or courage
  13. Frisson: (n.) A shiver of pleasure
  14. Petrichor: (n.) The smell of earth after rain
  15. Aeipathy: (n.) An enduring and consuming passion
  16. Paracosm: (n.) A detailed, prolonged imaginary world created by a child that includes animal, human or alien creations
  17. Coruscate: (v.) To reflect brillianity; to sparkle
  18. Aesthete: (adj.) Someone with deep sensitivity to the beauty of art or nature
  19. Altitudinarian: (adj.) Aspiring to great heights; having lofty ambitions
  20. Cosmogyral: (adj.) Whirling around the universe
  21. Eternitarian: (n.) One who believes in the eternity of the soul

    Gorgeous words. I have a similar post as well which includes selcouth! Love that one. A variation on wanderlust that I like is fernweh, a German word which means the same thing, though I’ve also seen it defined as “farsickness” (opposite of homesickness). 🙂

    I love doing this too, it’s hard to remember them all though! I like wimple just because it doesn’t sound like a word that would suit nuns! 😊
